Bonneville Unit Budget Cut Shocks Utah Officials
President Carter cut the 771 million Bonneville Unit of the Central Utah Project from the proposed budget, a move CUP officials call a disaster for Wasatch Front water needs. The project, 25 percent complete, faced 32 million dollars planned for 1978, with Utah leaders and Congress blaming economic, environmental, and safety concerns cited by a memo to Congress.

Parado module eyed to spur shale oil industry growth
Pforzheimer and Piper discussed advancing shale oil via a full size Parado module costing about 65 million dollars to demonstrate capital and operating cost accuracy, environmental impact, and socio economic effects. They projected possible scale ups to 500,000 barrels per day by 2000 and 6,000,000 bpd later, with environmental disposal enabling secondary recovery. The plan hinges on joint government and industry support and regulatory relief.
