Uintah and Uncompahgre lands settlement proposal
The Uintah and Uncompahgre Indians of Utah would receive lands in severalty eighty acres per head of family and forty acres for others under a Rawlins bill. The plan would open the remainder to settlement with 160 acres at $1.25 for settlers, excluding mineral and timber lands. The tribes hold about 4.0 million acres combined, averaging 2,800 acres per Indian.
