White Basin Water Users Organize at Roosevelt Meet

The United Basin Water Users Association was formed at Roosevelt on Saturday with members from several counties. Eloy Halverson was elected president, Floyd C. Hartmin vice president, Oscar Adams secretary, and other officers named. The group aims to protect white users’ water interests and work with the Indian Service and federal authorities over irrigation and water distribution formerly controlled by Native tribes.

Harold Lundell Attends School in the East

Uintah School District Superintendent Harold Lundell travels to Salt Lake City and Atlantic City with E. Allen Bale for the National Association of Educational Administrators. The group will visit Washington, D.C., returning to Vernal in March. Mr and Mrs Harold Calder of Bountiful visited relatives in Vernal last weekend.

Funeral Rites Planned for Franklin Angus Merrell

Funeral services for Franklin Angus Merrell 44 who died Sunday at his Naples Ward home will be held Thursday at the Vernal First Ward Chapel under the Naples Ward Bishopric. Merrell born July 6 1903 Jen gen to Frank In R and Mary Jane Angus Merrell married Mable Welst April 20 1922 farmed Naples then Roosevelt three years later returned to Naples managed Calfer Cream plant during wartime and later lived in Salt Lake City for treatment. An active LDS Church member he previously supervised Naples Ward Sunday School for five years served in Roosevelt Ward Bishopric and near death supervised Naples Ward Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association. Survived by widow three sons Ivan Merrell Lorin Merrell Orvil Merrell Vernal daughter Carmaj Vernal Wallace Merrell Com lon Calif Elmer Kerrel Pomona Calif two grandchildren. Calling Thursday 11 am to 12:30 pm at the home prior to burial in Vernal Memorial Cemetery.

Hyrum E Seeley Named Chairman of Advisory Board

Hyrum E Seeley Uintah County cattleman was elected chairman of the District 6 Advisory Board of the Bureau of Land Management at a recent meeting. Briant H Stringham and John am Woolgrowers were named vice chair and secretary treasurer. Executive committee members are Bennion and Stringham. The board discussed distributing range improvement funds from grazing receipts and planned improvements in fence construction water and range management and emergency actions. Tess Hiddaway and daughter Marilyn were Salt Lake shoppers last week returning to Vernal Monday.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield applications due soon

Applications for Blue Cross and Blue Shield membership must be received by February 28 in Uintah County. Alvin E Weeks, superintendent, notes that over 300 members exist and urges prompt action to ensure coverage. Membership fees are 88 dollars per family or 15 dollars for a single person for Blue Cross, and 30 dollars per family or 12 dollars for single for Blue Shield.

German Twins Thank Utah Yard Daughters for Clothes Donation

Two German sisters write from Europe thanking Joel and Joan Hall for clothing the twins wore, provided through a drive for European relief by the Uintah Stake Pri t e of the Church. Mrs. Pond and daughters gave many garments, most still usable, and twins were clothed identically. Funeral services for Mrs Harrison held today

Funeral rites for Mrs Almira Duka Harrison 82 of Vernal were conducted at the First Ward Chapel at noon under the Naples Ward Bishopric. She was born April 1 in Heber to Jonathan Duke and Sarah Duke Thompson, lived in Provo, and married Richard Cearge in 1834. They moved to Vernal in May 1834 and had 10 children. Survived by four sons, three daughters, a sister, brother, 17 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. burial at Vernal Memorial Cemetery.
