One Thousand Taxes In Milk Price Debate
Logan January 30 1950 Tadby price of milk about one third taxes says A J Morris Utah Dairy Federation managing director. He estimates about 1000 taxes in the price of a quart of milk covering farmer to consumer including land, machinery, transport, fuel, labor and government levies. He cites 206 truck tax items from hauler to delivery, hidden charges on equipment, and federal state and local taxes echoing through the chain. He concludes that two thirds of the price goes to milk and one third to tax.
