Milk Consumption Growth Surpasses Utah Population Growth
Utah Grade A milk consumption is rising about twice as fast as population, per Utah Milk Foundation president Eugene Pace. He credits teen and adult milk use with meals and office breaks, aided by newspaper ads and national campaigns by the American Dairy Association and the Dairy Council of Utah. Since 1953 the foundation has promoted dairy foods through frequent ads, with Gillham Advertising Agency handling campaigns.

Alfalfa Seed Yield Boost Planned in Utah
A state advisory committee in Salt Lake City heard that an acre yield goal of 800 pounds for alfalfa seed in Utah may be achievable through insect and weed control research. Dr. Wayne Thorne noted that while full controls for chaleid fly and dodder are not yet known, new practices reduce invasions. committees should establish field demonstration areas and use certified seed varieties to lift yields above the current average of about 200 pounds. The program, funded by a 50 000 grant from Utah Copper Division, Kennecott Copper Corp, aims to accelerate seed quality improvements and price differentials of 8 to 10 cents per pound between common and certified seed.
