Gamble's chalo store will open at the Mary Theater site in Vernal. Mr and Mrs K D Pattie of Bassett Nebraska will run the business. The theater will be remodeled with a new front by Francia Folich the owner. The Nebraskans bought a Vernal home built by Lynn Martinsen and will move in about 30 days with three daughters Carolyn 4 Kathy 3 and Jan 1.
Matters vital to successful school operations will be discussed at United High School PTA meeting Thursday February 15. The district staff will present details on finances the possible leeway program enrollment building plans and hurricane storm relief. The discussion will involve the whole district not just United High School.
Maurice Abravanel led the Utah Symphony in a two hour Vernal concert at the stake tabernacle. The packed audience split between silent reverence and enthusiastic applause, marking Vernal as a new point on the orchestra’s musical map.
Regional playoffs in Region 14C of the All Church basketball at Roosevelt Stake Center underway. Junior bracket results include Maeser 2nd over Roosevelt 2nd 33-30 and Neola over Vernal 4th 55-41. Senior division reports show Neola over Duchesne 38-34 and Roosevelt 3rd over Macksor 2nd 106-23.
Downtown Vernal store windows feature Scout handicrafts, hobbies and skills during Boy Scout Week February 7 to 13 with the 1962 theme Strengthen American Character Counts. Sunday evening programs were held in local churches, sponsored by Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, as groups and dens plan special meetings and skill displays.
Uintah County plans substantial road work on an Ouray access road highlighted as a No 1 project at the Ver nal Chamber meeting. Grant Southam notes Indian Agency reports Green River bridge work is planned and a Grand Junction firm proposes a link road over East Canyon Pass from US Highway near the Utah Colorado line to the Book Cliffs ridge road, with East Canyon of the Westwater Drainage as route.
Budget figures for fiscal 1963 show 13 623 000 for Flaming Gorge Dam and 39.5 million for a federal transmission system, with 45.133 million allocated to Glen Canyon. The plan anticipates construction work, turbine installation, and completion milestones for Flaming Gorge, including a 2 to 3 year ramp to first power in 1984, plus Utah transmission additions and Vernal area developments.
A 1 971 824 contract was awarded to complete construction of the power plant and switchyard at Flaming Gorge Dam. The low bid came from Gunther and Shirley Company and E. V. Lang Corporation, both of Sherman, Oklahoma, on a joint venture. The plant capacity is 103 000 kilowatts.
The Uintah Utes moved closer to a State Class B bid with wins over Manila and Duchesne. They crushed Manila 3 0 3 in Vernal and beat Duchesne 43 31 at Duchesne, improving to 51 in league play and holding first in Division standings as co leaders Duchesne and Altamont faltered.
E J Ballard reports Moon Lake Electric Assn growth doubling every 21 years with 36 percent rise in kilowatt hour sales and gross revenue from last year. Contracts cover Brown Park area of Utah and Colorado Straw berry Reservoir region and Moon Lake Upper Duchesne River vicinity. Balance sheet shows assets of 11 264 804. Officers reelected: Marion Noss Myron president Ralph Taylor vice president E E Urquhart secretary. Directors reelected and holdovers listed. Ward served dinner at Vernal meeting.
The Bureau of Reclamation invites bids to construct a Vernal substation east of Highway 40. Bids due March 22 at 2 p.m. in Butch John office. Work includes earthwork, two buildings, concrete foundations, steel structures, electrical systems, and site fencing. Completion target 430 days from notice to proceed. Specifications mailed Friday. Door prizes awarded to members.
The Bureau of Reclamation will seek bids within months for about 44 miles of transmission lines as part of the Upper Colorado River Storage Project. Kennedy’s budget request of 39.4 million supports these lines to boost power supply and attract industry to the Basin, with five projects slated for bid in February and March including a 122 mile 198000 volt line from Vernal.
A proposed power export route from Flaming Gorge Dam to Springville includes a trackage link between Flaming Gorge Ver nal and Rangely Cola. Construction is already 80 percent complete and ahead of schedule. Funds are expected to come from a requested appropriation. The project aims to be dim inction by November.
