Uintah Basin Asphalt Plant Faces Shutdown If Highway Oil Route Used
Uintah County commissioners urged action to block use of oil on the Vernal to Colorado line highway, warning the switch would kill the local Vernal Asphalt Plant payroll of about 250,000 dollars annually. The plant employs 75 to 100 workers in winter and spring, with material mined and treated for stockpiling ahead of summer road laying.

State Income Tax Law Doubles Yield in 1936 Reforms in Need of Revision
Utah lawmakers hailed a revised income tax measure to boost revenue, but the State Tax Commission report reveals a steep shift in tax burden. It shows 1939 receipts at 498,918 versus 212,708 in 1935, with lower brackets rising and upper brackets more than doubling. Despite higher rates, exemptions fell, and property taxes amplified the net rise for many taxpayers, while no remedies were proposed.
