The Vernal Asphalt plant, operating since fall 1933, has paid about $78,000 in labor. Experimental work began in 1933, with full plant built in 1934 and rapid output through 1938. Totals show 27,000 tons produced across projects including Twists, Myton-Port Duchesne, Half Way Hollow, and Ft Duchesne-Roosevelt, employing up to 75 workers on two shifts when at full capacity.

O D Allen 83 longtime Ashley Valley resident and local figure died Tuesday at his home in Maeser ward after a life of community service. Funeral services set for Friday at 11 a.m. in the Maeser ward chapel with Bishop Lester Bingham officiating. Allen served as director of the Ashley Central Irrigation Company and as a county commissioner, known for his welcoming smile and civic involvement.
The Uintah County Board of Commissioners urged state action to keep Uintah Basin rock asphaltum for U S Route 40 from Vernal to the Colorado line. The resolution names Rep David H Calder Senator G I Bilings Governor Henry H Blood and the State Road Commission as allies in preserving the paving material.
