Jail Escapees Enjoy Short Trip Before Recapture
Four Uintah County Jail inmates escaped by digging a hole in the north wall with a steel punch. They dined at a restaurant before officers recaptured them near Roosevelt. George Whitetail and Lynn Baton were seized in Vernal and San Francisco native Merrett Gere and Richard Gerlach were nabbed in Roosevelt. They were returned to the jail by local and highway patrol officers.

Chamber Hears County Road Work Report Friday
Clair R. Hopkins, new head of the National Highway 40 Association, told Vernal Chamber of Commerce directors that he met with county officials on regrading the Ouray to U.S. 40 road. He noted the White Rocks to Neola route carries the heaviest traffic of any unsur faced road and will be surfaced by the state soon, urging more direct contact with the State Road Commission to improve relations. Red Wash Roads were also discussed as needed.

At 8 45 a m in Naples Mrs Jay Abplanalp 25 rolled a 198g Pontiac after skidding 66 feet and tipping once injuring her and her three children who were unhurt. Damage 400 dollars. At 1 p m in Jensen Anthony Martinez 33 Rangely lost control on the Jensen bridge skidding 102 feet and hitting the bridge side. damage 150 dollars. Martinez cited for not having a driver’s license.
