Ernest Eaton chairs the new Diamond Mountain farmers group with John F Glines as vice president Wm F H Hangon as secretary and treasurer A regional drive to elect officers for the coming year is planned Over 200 homestead filings cover 32000 acres with another 24000 acres eyed by spring seekers The Vernal Rock Springs road and a Brush Creek segment are nearing completion improving mountain access and promising summer automobile travel The project is funded by sheepmen farmers and the county and is slated to finish early spring The road would become a premier county scenic route boosting the local dry farming and stock industries J W Paxman and agent Witwer back the effort urging adoption of Marquis Spring wheat and legumes The group will meet frequently to discuss plans and invite all aspiring farmers to attend, including Paxman and Co Agent Witwer during district visits

In 1852 the English Sparrow was introduced to the United States to populate city parks and has spread widely. A cooperative campaign plans poisoning bait and other methods to reduce sparrows, with timing when snow covers the ground and native birds are few. Coastal agents and local farm bureaus will distribute bait at cost and seek cooperative effort to protect next year’s crops.

Unique Christmas Gift by Miss Rodabaugh

Miss Nellie C Rodabaugh, a popular school teacher, gave friends a unique Christmas present on November 11 1918. It features mounted Kodak views of the Vernal peace parade with meritorious verses by Milas Hodabaugh bound together. The inscription notes peace was signed as Germany surrendered and bells rang, recalling the hopeful mood after the armistice.

Influenza Ban Lifted as City Plans Celebration

The influenza ban is lifted and schools and churches will reopen next Monday. A large citywide celebration is planned with bands and autos, while masks and vigilance continue. Death of a well respected citizen of Uintah County

Emanuel Johnson of the Lapoint district died last Saturday December 21 after years of declining health from pneumonia and other ailments. He lived in Lapoint since 1914, engaged in farming and mining related work, and was active in pioneer community life. He was born in Stockholm Sweden July 11 1880 and emigrated to America with a long line of moves before settling in Uintah County. He was affiliated with the Seventh Day Adventist church and left a family including Baith tears Anna Belle Alfreda Frances Heam and Carl Arthur Koy. Funeral arrangements were made by local family and church members with services led by Rev George A Downey and James HackIng.
