The 1954 Colorado fishing season opens May 15 and runs through October 31 with regulations close to last year. Opening date moved earlier than usual. bag limits set for trout at 10 pounds and one fish up to ten total, while whitefish kokanee salmon grayling and bass limits total 16 pounds and one fish up to ten. Forest Fire Prevention a Huge Regional Success
Intermountain region reports 1953 forest fire prevention drive cut man caused fires to 27.6 percent from 43.5 percent the prior year. Regional Forester C J Olsen credits newspapers radio TV schools industry civic groups and youth organizations for the gain. October campaign yielded 407 newspaper articles 1339 radio notices 1600 film showings 217 ads and 250 youth displays. Hunters started 64 fires burning 345 acres during the hunting period.

Forest Fire Losses and Ongoing Hunter Safety Efforts in Intermountain Region
The Intermountain Region in Utah, Southern Idaho, Nevada, and Western Wyoming saw an estimated 200 000 big game hunters across five national forests with about one fire per three hunting parties.
