Ute Tribe Pushes Demands Over Central Utah Project Water

In a resolution to Governor Matheson the Ute Indian Tribe demands 500 000 acre feet of water annually and 129 201 acres of irrigable land as part of full CUP development. They seek a pre1985 delivery system, active participation in facility management, hunting rights on public lands, and minimum stream flows, signaling tough negotiations ahead with state and federal agencies.

Uintah school board approves elementary building and staff

The Uintah School District Board of Education unanimously authorized a new elementary school on Robinwood Lane. It scheduled interviews with architects Silver and Allsop and Edwards and Daniels, set an earlier 3 p.m. start for the December 22 meeting, and approved hiring a principal Dr Colleen Colton or Stan Allen or Grant Drollinger plus six to seven teachers to assist the transition. An attendance and financial audit highlighted roll book issues risking state funds, noting a $3200 discrepancy at Maeser.

Vernal Area Lighting Contest Judging Tonight

The Vernal area Christmas home lighting contest will be judged tonight by a panel of art teachers from Uintah High School and Vernal Junior High School plus last year’s sweepstakes winner. Judging starts at 6 pm. residents should have lights on. Four area winners will be chosen plus a sweepstakes winner with a wooden sign. Homes past two years winners are ineligible. Residents outside Vernal City should call the chamber before 4 pm.

Uintah County approves 1978 budget with minor reallocation

Uintah County Commissioners gave final approval to a 1978 budget of 4,576,690 dollars on Monday. The sole change moved 5,000 dollars from the cemeteries fund to the library fund to raise it to 100.

Flaming Gorge visitor center expansion underway

Construction is under way on a 2,270 square foot $240000 addition to the Flaming Gorge Dam visitor center in Utah. The project adds offices theater restrooms and expanded displays to better show Bureau of Reclamation and Forest Service activities with a Memorial Day completion target.

Vernal Drainage Project Bid Opening Delayed

The Vernal land drainage project near Vernal Utah has its bid opening postponed to January 10, 1978 from December 8. Bureau of Reclamation official W. KR. Harry cites need for further preparation of specifications. Work lies two miles southwest of Vernal and around saturated farmland areas.

Ashley National Forest Plans 18.8 Million Board Feet in Timber Sales

For fiscal year 1977–78 Ashley National Forest proposes 16.8 million board feet to be sold. Through March 13, 1978, 3 million board feet of Amber are planned in miscellaneous ranger sales. April–Sept. 1978 tentative sales include East Draw 1 million, Roadside 7 million, Wash's Nipple 4 million. Cart Creek 2.2 million, Head of Eagle Creek 2 million, Taylor Mountain No.5 4 million. August bids: Honslinger Draw 0.5 million, Charli es Park Thinning 0.8 million, Henlee Beach 1.5 million, Head of Hominy Creek 4 million. Road construction totals 4 miles Cart Creek, 1 mile Henslinger Draw, 0.8 mile Henley Beach.

Vernal Turkey Drawings Draw Crowds at IGA and Fourth Event

A large crowd estimated at around 0 attendees attended the third free turkey drawing in as many weeks at the IGA Foodfair parking lot. The Vernal area Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event with a fourth and final drawing planned for Saturday at the Safeway lot. A Home Decorating Contest judges’ panel will name a Sweepstakes winner and four sectional winners tonight.

Utah cattlemen elect officers amid homestead law clash
