Safety Council urges safer driving for Christmas travel
The National Safety Council warns that despite progress, highway accidents peak at Christmas. It cites a 3 percent drop in deaths in the first nine months versus last year, saving about 800 lives, and says sustained effort could save more than 1,000 in 1957.
