Funeral Held at Glines For Mrs Zina B Cook Former County Teacher

Glines Special funeral services were held last Wednesday at 2 pm in the chapel for Mrs Zina B Cook who died November 21 of pneumonia. Bishop John B Eaton presided and Wil Jig Hoefelta conducted the exorcists. A chorus sang Sometime well Understand and Oh My Father. The pallbearers included Harold Cook and Ralph Allred. Interment was in Maeser cemetery under Swain Funeral Home direction. Outside attendees included Neils Behrman and Ferdinand Behrman among others.

Two Elementary Schools Make Record War Stamp Sales

During November Central School and Ballard Elementary School set record defense stamp sales. Ballard students bought 8000 dollars worth and Central School students 7446 dollars from November 11 to November 1. Each Tuesday a volunteer stamp salesman from faculty helps, and stamps are sold at the school. Defenses stamps sales will continue through the school year.

Harold McNeil Dies in Vernal Home

Harold McNeil 31 son of the late Thomas and Lucy Witham McNeil died at home today. He was born in Vernal in 1911 and is survived by siblings Mrs James Stel Miller of Vernal Mrs JS Gurr of Reno Nevada Mrs Horace Coltharp of Hayden and Ronald McNett of Vernal.

Courses Planned for Utah Farmers Training Program

Utah farmers will receive free training in 69 high school areas under the Rural War Products Training Program. Mark Nichols, state agriculture vocational director, announced a $45 000 effort to train farm workers, wives, and others to boost efficiency in tractor operation, crop production, and farm maintenance. Circulars go to high schools to gauge local course demand. Courses require ten or more interested participants and target under 17s, with emphasis on skills, management, and using repairable machinery to conserve resources while training.

Meat Rationing Leader to Hold Meeting

Area block leaders of Utah county were invited to a courthouse meeting Thursday afternoon at 2 30 to receive instructions on the meat rationing program. A J Morris Extension dairyman of Utah State Agricultural College will conduct the meeting called by the Extension Service and County Defense Council. The plan aims to keep adult meat consumption to 2 1/2 pounds per week, stressing household cooperation.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Ward Chapel for Charles U Miles 73. Bishop Lloyd Merkley of Jensen officiated with prayer by Joseph Dudley. A mixed quartet sang Jesus Lover of My Soul. Moroni Moon opened with prayer. Mrs Jorgenson and Mrs Calder sang softly and Tell Verily Jesus Is Calling. Archie Johnson spoke followed by God Be With You Til We Meet Again. Bishop Merkley gave closing remarks and Joseph Dudley offered the closing prayer. Interment was in Vernal Memorial Park.

Uintah County leads the state in scrap collection as the sixth Selective Service registration for eighteen year olds is announced by Chellis Caldwell, local draft board secretary. Mra Bessie Swain of Vernal has four sons in the armed services of the United States or five sons, four have enlisted. The remaining son Robert Swain, is four years old and a student at Uintah County High School. Mrs Swain, twice married, shows different last names. Private First Class Jerald T Dillman joined the army air corps on December 30, 1941, home station Puerto Rico. Sergeant Glendon M Bywain joined the National Guard in 1940, deployed to Hawaii in September 1942. Lorin R and Lawrence R Swain are 19. Lorin R joined the U S Navy March 20 on convoy duty, trained at San Diego. Lawrence R completed Camp Roberts training and earned life man status. Hoe joined the Army April 20 and was injured in the Solomon Islands. he is a paratrooper recuperating at Fort Travis, Texas.

Burglars Hit Two Vernal Businesses on Thursday

Night Watchman Roy I Davis found two Vernal shops entered the Grub Box and the Ashley Valley Market. Emery Johneson reported shelves broken with the juke box and cash register at the Grub Box emptied. The Ashley Valley Market cash drawer was left open with only a small amount disturbed. Theft likely near 2:00 am. no precise loss known. Car tracks from the Ashley Valley Market were the only clues.
