At the Uintah County Farm Bureau meeting held Saturday night August 18, members discussed marketing the grain crop. The group set minimum prices for wheat 40 cents per bu barley 1 per hundred oats 3.150 per hundred and pressed for local cooperation with Vernal and Ashley Valley business institutions to use locally produced flour bread and other products. A petition signed by signatory institutions urges local use of wheat to prevent surplus and boost circulation. Continued on Page Four.

The letter from Cedar City Utah dated August 11 1930 recalls Vernal's early 1890s days noting Conrad Franck drilling for artesian water near Main and Vernal streets and memories of Ed Harm Ed Ashton Gasy Emmert Colthorpe Browns Hall and dance nights before Vernal city charter. It mentions frontier days tight gun presence at dances and saloon proximity to the hall. Alfred Kidd faced charges later quashed, with action pending.

District Court Pays Tribute to Sen O'Donnell
The Uintah county District Court opened its 1930 term with Judge A V Watkins. Resolutions of respect for Senator O'Donnell were drafted by appointed bar members and will be spread on court minutes and published in the Vernal Express. The session also heard the bastardy case against Irvin Doss, resulting in a long support order, and a battery case against Paulson, which ended in a not guilty verdict. Probate matters and estate appointments filled the docket, with several wills probated and estates assigned administrators with bonds noted. Continuous court actions included cases of neglect and failure to provide, plus dismissals for death or jurisdiction changes.

Ver nal City Council Adopts 18 Mills Tax Levy and Pool Hall Ordinance
At a regular meeting Mayor Calder led discussions on fire hydrants for unprotected city areas. The council approved a pool hall ordinance on first reading and set the 1979 tax levy at 18 mills covering general fund four, streets four, sewers two, water three, interest one, sinking three and a half, for a total of eighteen mills.

One Bid Takes 3000 Lambs to Coast in Ogden Sale
Ten double decks totaling about 2000 head of lambs were sold in a single Ogden union stock yards transaction on Monday. It was the season’s largest lamb sale at Ogden, with lambs from Smiley and Beeney Deeth loaded Sunday. Average weight 76 pounds, price $78.3 per hundredweight, buyers from Los Angeles.
