Funeral services for Mia Minnie Cook Preece, 60, will be held Saturday at 11 am in Vernal 8th Ward chapel. Burial in Rocks Point Cemetery. Died Wednesday at 2:45 am at home after a lingering illness. Survived by four sons and one daughter, including Jay Robbing and John Preece, all of Vernal and Craig Colorado. Also two brothers, three sisters, and two half-sisters. Three Jail Escapees Recaptured After Brief Flight

Uintah Basin Championship Rodeo slated with parades and trophies
The Uintah Basin Championship Rodeo, approved by the Western Elope Rodeo Association, will run Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds with parades nightly at 6 p.m. The Goat Ropers and Lost Loop Roping Clubs back the event and trophies will be awarded for saddle bronc, bareback, bull riding, bull dogging, calf roping, team roping and all around cowboy. Special events include grand entry, junior calf roping, and pole riding, with prizes including Levi’s for the top bull riders. Participants are urged to join the parade in Western style floats reaching the route from Velals’ start to the fairgrounds.
