Utah and Colorado road officials met in Denver to pledge completing U S 40 to asphalt standard by fall 1937. Duchesne Delegates Pledged to Dillman for Governor
Seventeen Duchesne County Republicans were pledged to Ray E. Dillman of Roosevelt at a Mt Emmons convention. A resolution urged withdrawal of R. Miller to back Dillman, Miller declined comment, and local leaders pledged strong organizing support. Lawrence Pack became county chair as A C Harmston resigned, with Mrs. R E Dillman replaced by Mrs. R C Walker. Delegates to the Salt Lake City convention were named.

Worker Killed At Vernal Road Camp On Friday
Padget Phillips 22, time-keeper for Northwestern Construction, died Friday evening after a gas shovel crush at the Ft Duchesne Vernal highway camp. He walked 500 to 600 feet for help, died at 7:45 pm. Born December 8 1913 in Roosevelt, he attended Roosevelt High and Snow College. Survived by parents Theo and Mrs Phillips and brothers Evan Russell Bret Bernice. Funeral in Roosevelt ward chapel.

B. L. Dart a leading Myton attorney and former Duchesne County state representative announces candidacy for nomination for Judge of the Fourth Judicial District on the Republican ticket. He graduated from the University of Utah College of Law and has practiced in Myton for fourteen years. Dart has served on the Utah Code Revisers Committee and as mayor of Myton.

County Bourbons Instruct Delegation For Blood
David J. Calder chaired a Uintah county Democratic delegate convention at 9:00 p m Saturday with nearly 100 delegates and many spectators. G Clarence Neslen spoke for the New Deal and Roosevelt politics. The instruction vote was 44 to 45 for instructing the delegation. The Blood faction led 60 to 31 on whether the delegation would cast for Governor Blood or Dr Herbert Maw. Delegates elected to the state convention in Salt Lake were listed with alternates.

Eastern Utah Bankers Hold Annual Meeting at Vernal
The Eastern Utah Bankers Association held its annual meeting in Vernal on Saturday with bank losses noted. Joseph Barboglio of Price presided, outlining business conditions and minor changes in clearing house rules. New officers for the coming year are J A Cheney Vernal president R S Jordan Roosevelt vice president Claude J Empy Price secretary. Directors elected include Jack Vignetta Helper Edmund Crawford Price N J Meagher Vernal and W R McConkle Moab. A semi annual meeting was proposed for future gatherings.

Be Deihl to Leave Uintah Ouray Reservation Soon
BE. H. Deihl extension agent for the Uintah Ouray Indian reservation was summoned to Salt Lake City to meet Indian Affairs officials. He was told a promotion is coming and to prepare to move to the Fort Hall reservation in Idaho within the next weeks. He previously served at the Uintah Ouray and earlier at Tintah Curry.

Stroke Proves Fatal to Hiram S Richardson
Hiram S Richardson deputy sheriff Uintah county died at home Tuesday from a paralytic stroke after five weeks of illness. Born October 15 1876 in Plain City Utah he moved to Ashley Valley in 1893 to farm and raise stock. He married Carrie Nielson in 1900 and leaves a widow six children and four grandchildren. Funeral services to be held today in the first ward chapel Vernal after a Salt Lake hospital treatment and return home last week.

Highteen Girl Scouts Return from Encampment in Ogden Canyon
Eighteen girls from Vernal Girl Scout troop led by Mrs Henderson spent a week at Camp Redcliff in Ogden Canyon. The Ogden Girl Scouts Council ran the camp with twelve women instructors. Subjects covered included nature study signaling judging of heights weights and distances and drama. They hiked fifteen miles on a tough overnight trek and did a River Hike. A banquet crowned the trip with Miriam Young toastmaster and Ann Norgaard a Vernal scout speaker. The unit sang four song types. plans include enlarging the troop and forming others in the Basin while pursuing drama astronomy handicraft and Gold Award badges.

Republican Convention Endorses Ray E Dillman for Governor
The Utah county Republican convention presided by County Chairman Martin W. Curtis endorsed Ray E. Dillman of Roosevelt for governor. Superintendent I G Noble reports a $1200 grant from the Indian Bureau for a Fort Duchesne public school building. The old structure is too deteriorated to refurbish. The Uintah and Ouray agency aims to remodel it for classroom use, with work to start soon and schools expected to begin September 9th or shortly after.
