Shaft to Mark 1st Utah Fort At Whiterocks
A joint effort by the U B I C White rocks Chapter Daughters of Utah Trails and Landmarks Association will unveil the Robidoux monument on U S 40 near Whiterocks. The site marks Fort Robidoux a trading post built in 1832 by Antoine Robidoux later known as Fort Uintah. The ceremony on August 20 at 11 o clock follows the old fort site relocation in 1936 and will include Oregon Trail and Utah Trails representatives.

Vernal Eyes Bi Level White Way Lighting Plan
Vernal City considers a modern white way lighting system for five blocks in the business district from 1st East to 2nd West on Main Street and Vernal Avenue. Westinghouse specs call for 21 foot poles every 70 feet with overhead and underground distribution costing 4112.87 and 6037 respectively. Council awaits action after J. C. Anderson of Utah Power and Light presents the plan and Charles A Tiatch oversees street recommendations.

Uintah County sets 237 mill total levy for 1938 with city 17 mills and state 5.63 mills raising overall 60 mills. County welfare funding to be supplemented by state 35 percent and federal 50 percent, totaling about 114000 dollars for welfare. County four mill levy funds debt service of 56000, and 14.5 mill county school levy dominates the budget while special levies cover pests, weeds, fair activities, and related projects. The combined indebtedness across Uintah County entities is 913000 dollars with Vernal City owing 55000 and Uintah School District 202000.

Group Makes Inspection Of Dry Fork Water

Church security plan reviewed by regional leaders in Vernal

Mrs. Alla A. Shepherd, 80, Ashley Valley pioneer, died at 10:07 a.m. Monday of liver disease. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Verna Second Ward chapel with Bishop John Hate Jr presiding. Interment followed at Vernal Memorial Park.

The State Fish and Game commission and Ashley Wool Growers association will pay a ten dollar bounty to hunters in Ashley Valley for lions killed within game territory. Mountain lion kills in 1934 were few and the program aims to curb predation on deer and sheep. Glen Lambert heads the big game committee with B. Mrs. Ora Lewis of Richfield and formerly of Vernal was chosen state president of the American Legion Auxiliary at the Utah Legionaries gathering in Price. Ora Bundy of Ogden was named commander of the Legion and Norman Sims of Salt Lake a national executive committeeman. Cedar City was designated a 34 convention city as officers were elected and a period of silence observed for fallen World War comrades. The group enjoyed rodeo, horse racing, parade and evening entertainments. Mrs. Cuba Davis of Payson, another former Vernalite, was elected aisle vice chairman of the Auxiliary.

Vernon officials announce a three day Vernal rodeo featuring veteran stockman Guy Rife of Rock Springs and his wild horses. The event will include Mexican and Texan longhorn steers for steer riding and bulldogging, plus clowns Dewey and his trained animals. More than a hundred people toured the Vernal ST and T Co plant during an open house on Friday. Manager B J Cowan guided groups through the building while Miss Delores Anderson demonstrated the switchboard and explained long distance and other calls.
