The sermon extols alfalfa as a permanent, life sustaining crop for arid lands. It traces alfalfa’s roots to creation, cites Judge Bell on tap roots, and argues science and variety development will extend alfalfa cultivation beyond deserts. It praises alfalfa as wealth, security, and national interest for farmers and communities.
Warns that house flies spread typhoid and diarrheal diseases and that removal of filth is the key. Urges immediate cleaning, covered garbage, screened rooms especially kitchens, and prompt removal of manure and refuse. Calls citizens to report failures to the board of health and notes Nellie Preece assisting county clerks.

The Uintah Railway has graded its section of the new road into Vernal from the south. A freight truck will be tested in a few days. Captain Cooley did not promise a freight automobile but would try if roads warranted. Merchants and residents urged communal effort to complete a good road to the settled district so both stages can use it.
Farmers advised to spray young apple trees to kill green aphis and protect yields. Reports cite W P Vernom with 601 bushels of wheat on 15 acres, Campbell's wheat experiment, Incubator success, and Draining cultivation boosts yields. Emphasis on water reservoirs, purebred stock, timely seeding, and exhibiting at September fair.
A Vernal citizen invites the Uintah County workforce to visit in October. Four committees from the large worker body will pay a visit, prompting broad interest across the community.
Vintah County is invited to exhibit produce at the National Land and Irrigation Congress in Chicago. The idea follows O J Bracken's successful display of flufe and potatoes last fall that earned praise in the Chicago Tribune. Myron leads the project and seeks public input.
The Myton community plans Bridge Day on September 5 with committees busy and preparations underway. Senator Reed Smoat is expected to attend along with other honored guests. Vernal is also slated for strong representation, and the Myton Commercial Club is active in promoting the town as a hub for the reservation.
The Duchesne Record notes President Wilam Homart returned from the reservation. A Farmers Institute is set for Myton on August 18 with Professor L A Merrill and D I Dart confirming attendance. Vernal seeks an institute and received a promise for one by February. question remains who will oversee Vernal.
A popular group of eight Vernal couples leaves for Salt Lake City to be married in the temple. The pairings include Wallace Calder with May Macking, W Hansen with Afton Pack, Robert Robineen with Manlo Calder, and Charles T Pope with Viola Massey. Friends extend best wishes for their happiness and enduring love.
