The Uintah County Board of Education approved the opening of schools on Monday September 4 with about 3000 students. Improvements to buildings were approved and transportation plans debated for Woods and other isolated communities. The Avalon and Maeser routes were discussed, with funds allocated for building improvements and future surveys of regional routes.

B P Kelly Dies At Home In Vernal Wednesday
Benjamin P Kelly 65 prominent Uintah county businessman and club worker died at home in Vernal early Wednesday morning after a year of poor health. He had recently returned from Batt Lake hospital and was a longtime city recorder and justice of the peace. Survived by his widow two sons Harold of Price Bruce of Vernal and daughter Mrs Melba Larence of Salt Lake. Funeral services set for Friday at 2 p m in the Vernal First Ward Chapel.

State Tax Commission Adopts 7 Mills Levy for 1939
The Utah State Tax Commission on Monday set a 7 mill levy for 1939 to replace the 1938 levy of about TH milly. The plan restores part of the general fund eliminated for three years and allocates 145 to the state general fund 135 to the state school equalization fund 49 to the state district school fund and 2 to the state militia school fund.

Uintah County Wins Victory On Indian Land
Washington DC. Representative Abe Murdock won a ruling from the interior department that 1.0 to 2.0 million acres in Uintah Basin drawn in 1933 be added to the Uintah Indian reservation. Under the Taylor Grazing Act 50 percent of lease revenues go to the county for range development and 30 percent of future receipts flow to Uintah County.
