Hay Crops Forecast Shows Reductions and One Surplus
The report notes a strong first hay crop with an anticipated second crop drop due to heat dryness and water shortages. Most counties expect lower hay harvests than last year and statewide production below the area average. A few counties plan to import hay, carryover from last year is sizable, and overall production plus carryover should feed a normal winter in eastern central and northern counties. Duchesne County is the sole county forecasting a hay surplus.
