Gilsonite Industry Birth Powers Western Fuel Boom
A new industry emerges in the Intermountain West as American Gilsonite Company commissions an $18 million refinery at Gilsonite Colorado near Grand Junction, turning Gilsonite into high octane gasoline and pure coke. The project, mining 700 tons daily and linking Bonanza Utah to the plant via a 12 mile pipeline, revitalizes eastern Utah and western Colorado, creating jobs and a new energy pathway beyond traditional petroleum.
