Ray Nash Named Assistant D A Tuesday in Provo

Ray B Nash, 40, Vernal, was sworn in as assistant district attorney for the Fourth Judicial District by Judge Joseph E Nelson in Provo. Nash attended LDS Business College and the University of Utah, served five years in the Army legal branch, and is a member of state and Uintah County bar associations. He and wife Maral Wixem have four sons and will live in Vernal, where he has practiced law for seven years.

Vernal Golf Club Sets Official Opening Sunday

Vernal golf club will hold its Official Opening Sunday with a mixed Scotch foursome. Prizes will be awarded to winners. Contests will include a hole in one and putting. Greens and lawns committees and volunteers have cleaned and fixed the course for the opening. The clubhouse has been remodeled and the new patio should be finished in time.

Second Ward Rites Laud Sarah Rudge Tuesday in Vernal

Funeral services were held Tuesday at noon in Vernal second ward chapel for Sarah Low Ise Rudge born August 22 1964 in Compando Somersetshire England to Kitty Gak ledge and William Austin. She married William Rudge Feb 14 1887 in Ystrad Wales and they immigrated to the United States in 1897. Burial was in Maeser Fairview cemetery.

Associated Civic Clubs Endorse Loop Road in Dinosaur Monument

The Associated Civic clubs of Southern and Eastern Utah met in Vernal and endorsed a loop road from Dinosaur National Monument museum to Echo Park and Split Mountain. A second resolution supported roads to Glen Canyon dam site from Utah side. The group directed the road committee to study a timber road from Fredonia Arizona to Hurricane Utah linking with US 91 and to request a State Road Commission survey on Highway 33 through Indian Canyon to Duchesne. The reguative committee was authorized to push recreational and camp ground improvements on national forests. Walter M. Iorne of Utah Mining Assn noted 20 mineral specimens from the Colorado River area exhibited for senators and congressmen.

Vernal Lions Club gathered at the Hotel Vernal electing Orland L. Johnson president for 1956 57 alongside Arden Jolley first vice president Royal Henderson third vice president Warren Mott tall twister Lakell Anderson fon tanter I C Thorne chorus organist Max Abbott organist and directors V L Nielsen Frank Wright. Members approved 2850 for Merkley Park improvements including swings monkey bars a sprinkler system and caretaker services. May was set as work night at Merkley Park with members to attend equipped with shovels and cleaning gear. Diane Busch region winner gave a speech on the Constitution. City Seeks Cleanup of Vacant Lots Amid Fires

Vernal City mayor the council and the fire department urged property owners Wednesday to clear vacant lots to reduce fire risk. Officials cited dry weather and weed buildup. if owners do not act, the city will assign staff to clean the lots and bill the owners.

Moon Lake Electric Wins Gilsonite Co Contract

Moon Lake Electric Association has been awarded the contract to supply all electrical power for the American Gilsonite Company's existing facilities and new Bonanza operations. Moon Lake will build a 69 KV transmission line from Rangely, Colorado to the Bonanza site and install a 3,750 KVA stepdown substation near the new plant. The cooperative serves the Stangely area and much of the system's transmission facilities from Rangely.

National Park Service Seeks Survey of Dinosaur Road

The National Parks Service asked the Bureau of Public Roads to survey southern access routes to Dinosaur National Monument. Acting NPS Director Scoven told Sen Arthur Watkins that several Highway 40 links will be studied in spring and summer, focusing on construction economics land acquisition and park road development prerequisites. Stockmen in Utah and Colorado protest a proposed recess route for potentially splitting grazing lands north of the monument.

Information Panel Completed for Scenic Overlook

The west Ashley Valley overlook will gain a table top information panel in a tile shelter. It will show a valley panorama and points of interest to orient visitors and provide area information. Vernal Chamber Hearings On Flaming Gorge Dam Plans

At a Wednesday Vernal Chamber meeting a report on a Salt Lake City session with E. O. Larson noted that Flaming Gorge dam work would run concurrently with Den Canyon dam. Transmission system funding totals 153 million dollars and major power companies will buy most generated power. Utah Power and Light backed the project, influencing federal support. A Dinosaur National Monument debate arose with Sen. Bennett and Rep. Dawson to be discussed in Salt Lake City.

Bureau Details $8 Million Initial Project Plan

Commissioner Wilbur A. Dexheimer announced last weekend the administration requests 38 million to start construction in the Colorado River basin. The release discloses 5,224,700 for Glen Canyon Dam and 1,300,009 for Flaming Gorge, with the rest allocated to other sections in early planning.
