Settlement hardships in early Naples and Vernal history
The passage recalls scarce clothing for women and children, settlers living off wild greens and game, and the role of rabbit and deer in westward settlement. It notes grain shipments to Burr mill in Mill Ward, later Mae ser Ward, and describes Karl G Maeser’s naming. Colonel Rose arrives in 1893, buys land, pioneers Rose Orchard, Archibald Rose and Esther run the orchard, fruit sold in Vernal and on the reservation. The first burial in Vernal Cemetery is Mrs Joseph Black in 1880.
