The Senate approves Echo Park Vernal Manila highway funding with further Uintah County road work. Projects include enlarging the ridge cut on U.S. 40 near Jensen, progressing Lapoint to Tridell via Whiterocks, and a 0.7 mile Vernal to Lapoint connector. A $190,000 appropriation extends the Whiterocks road toward the line, with Neola to Whiterocks carrying heavy traffic and planned construction soon.

Range Flock Shearing Gets Underway
Mexican shearing crews began work in the Uintah Basin for the annual wool harvest with Abe Hatch Dave Seeley and Cliff McCoy among early workers. Four crews active. about half the raisers still to shear by month end. Range flocks move to lambing grounds May 1 then to the forest July 1. Wool prices run 53 to 57 cents per pound, slightly below last year. Calving and lambing underway in Uintah Basin. Crop weather reports show soil moisture good to very good in most northern and central Utah areas. Lamb crop expected average. calf prospects good.

The Vernal teen-age Road-o was held Saturday April 16 at Vernal Airport. Gary Hatch of Uintah High School won top honors after a written test and strict driving exam. Clair Hopkins Jr placed second and Keri Pope third. Awards will be given at Uintah High School Friday. The event aims to promote safe driving among youth.

Frontier Wins Permanent Certificate for Airline Service
Frontier Airlines receives unanimous approval from both the House and Senate for a permanent service certificate. Local Frontier Station manager Karl Bancroft relays that president C. A. Myhre confirmed the approval this morning. The carrier had operated under five year temporary certificates awaiting a more robust long term plan. Funeral Services for Lydia M M Bills
Funeral services for Lydia Marie Mower Bills were held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Vernal Third Ward LDS Chapel. She died Friday night at her daughter's home in Vernal of causes incident to age. Born April 19, 1875 in Fairview Sanpete County she was active in the LDS Church and served as secretary of the Primary and later assistant secretary of the YWMIA. She married John Edmond Bills March 1 1893 in the Manti Temple and lived in Fairview before moving to Canada including Lethbridge and Etna where her husband worked on a canal the Church was building.
