Vernal city launches a four district cleanup week April 17 to 24. Civic groups scouts and volunteers organize planting, trimming, and street cleanup with a free Vogue Theatre matinee for participating children and coordinated rubbish disposal and street washing by city crews.

Tridell Woman Dies After Appenix Operation

Young mother Ethel Glines Harvey of Tridell died April 10 at 2 a m after an appendectomy two days earlier. Funeral in Tridell chapel Monday with local speakers and floral tributes. she was born Vernal July 6, 1800 and married James B. Harvey in the Salt Lake Temple August 24, 1918.

Vernal Seminary Oratorical Contests Set for May 2

Vernal LDS Seminary oratorical contest will be held Sunday evening May 2 at the Vernal Second Ward chapel during a conjoint meeting of both wards. Semi finals will select three boys and three girls for the finals with boys competing separately from girls. a prize from the Utah stake presidency will be awarded to the successful contestant in each group.

School Board Sets Salaries and Mails Contracts

At the regular board meeting, a $6,000 salary increase for county teachers for 1937 38 was approved, increasing the instruction budget to 45 586.39. A resolution set aside $4,000 from potential federal aid for salaries next year if Harrison Fletcher or other funds arrive. Contracts for new teachers Isabelle Dillman Iris Manwaring Merle Knudson Maysie Hall Tyan Perry and Ruth Goodrich were approved with values mailed April 15 and due May 14.

Maeser Father Killed at Vernal Plant in Accident

Jamey Edwin Oaks of Maeser, 30, died at 0:45 a m Monday at the Vernal Asphalt Plant when a heavy piece of asphalt rolled 25 feet crushing his skull. Witnesses included Lewis Searle and a coroner’s jury ruled accidental death. He left a widow Marelle Nelson Oaks and four children. funeral held today at 2 p m in Maeser ward chapel.

Bookkeeping and Typing Teams Win High Place

Uintah high school's bookkeeping and typing teams earned top honors at BYU contests drawing 403 entrants from Utah Idaho and Wyoming. Bodily led bookkeeping with 216 of 365 and teammate Lind tied for fourth. Nickell placed third in typing with 46 wpm. Anderson of Richfield won typing. Milburn excelled in amateur typing.

Buck Pasture Reservoir and Bullock's Draw Approved by WPA

WPA approves two Utah irrigation projects in Vernal area. Buck Pasture and Bullock Draw reservoir works gain Washington backing. local officials report cordial cooperation with agencies. Officials note Buck Pasture will hold about 6,845 acre feet of water with an 800 foot dam and 140,000 cubic yards of earth moved. Oaks Park project also under consideration with broad support from Rep Abe Murdock and state authorities.

Health Day Parade Seeks Uintah County Support

Superintendent L A Noble called for broad cooperation for a May 7 Health Day event in Vernal. All Uintah County schools will join in a mass parade and school festival to boost public health with every student participating under a unifying banner. He urged parents clubs and local businesses to unite for a successful celebration.

Funeral Services Held Monday for Mrs Mary Green

Funeral services for Mrs Mary Green 76 were held Monday at 2 7 p m in the Vernal Second Ward chapel with Bishop John Hall Jr presiding. Speakers included Mrs Jane Murray Ernest Eaton and Bishop Hair. Interment followed at Vernal Memorial Park. Mrs Green was born October 2 1940 in Salt Lake City and died in Vernal April 9 amid age related illness. She leaves five daughters one son and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Eastern Utah Civic Clubs dissolve at meeting

At a Community House gathering Friday evening the Associated Civic Clubs of Eastern Utah voted unanimously to dissolve and affiliate with the Associated Civic Clubs of Northern Utah. Attending were delegates from Myton Duchesne Roosevelt and Vernal with W S Henderson presiding.
