Vernal cleanup drive sparks broad civic effort

The greatest cleanup and paint campaign in Vernal’s history begins Thorntey, run by the Vernal Junior Chamber of Commerce and Jaycee general committee. It spans to April 29 and climaxes with the Region Five music festival attended by hundreds of high school musicians from 15 eastern Utah schools. The drive aims to present Vernal as clean for the festival and keep it neat through summer for thousands of visitors. Jaycee vigilante committees will inspect blocks, mail notices to owners, offer aid via cooperation, and may seek city nuisance action if owners do not cooperate. Certificates of achievement will honor exceptional cleanup efforts, and a school contest is planned.
