Chamber States Annual Meeting Monday at Hotel

The Vernal Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting Monday at 7 30 p m in the Hotel Vernal with C Taylor Burton Utah Highway Dept director as featured speaker on local roads Five directors will be elected for three year terms The annual activity report will be given by L Siddo way secretary manager and President Paul M Armstrong will speak Present officers include Royal B Henderson vice president and Roland Merkley treasurer The program will include musical selections Wives of members and guests are invited to the dinner meeting.

Coordinating Council Study Session Planned

Uintah Stake LDS Church president Frank R Walker opened a Vernal meeting in Uintah County Courtroom to outline council aims and procedures. Barclay Gardner of the Vernal Utah State Employment Service reported on the Utah Committee on Children and Youth and regional committees under the Governor's panel, noting existing Vernal Youth Service Council alignment.

Big Concrete Pour Underway at Damsite

A large concrete pour is underway at Flaming Gorge Dam with three shifts around the clock through Friday. Officials warn of heavy gravel truck traffic on the Linwood road. River flow fluctuations due to warming weather affected the diversion tunnel and cofferdam, with repairs completed and the power plant area protected.Concrete work continues on the spillway and powerhouse through the winter as the reservoir is set to inundate the bridge and road in early 1963.

Vernal Firm Wins Post Office Contract for Updates

The General Services Administration awarded Ashley Engineers Inc of Vernal a contract to prepare drawings and specifications for a Vernal Post Office extension and modernization. The project includes a one story basement extension about 154 by 27 feet, parking area expansion, lobby remodeling, new lighting and air conditioning, with an August completion target and an estimated cost of $140,000. The Bank of Vernal building houses Ashley Engineers.

Fireman's Ball Slated Here Saturday Night

The annual Fireman's Ball will be held Saturday night at the National Guard Armory with the local firemen and partners, and the public invited. Music by Art Eaton's orchestra begins at 8 00 pm, with Johnny Milburn as dance chairman and a full roster of committees handling tickets, punch, and advertising.

Meeting Set Friday On Museum Plan In Vernal

A Friday 2 pm meeting in Vernal will bring Vernal Chamber of Commerce officials and Utah State Park and Recreation Commission to discuss expanding the Vernal museum. The state agency has earmarked 25,000 dollars toward a 34,602 dollar extension, with local groups promising the balance and a 250,000 dollar endowment from the Dulany Hunter Foundation. Dinosaurs and a fluorescent exhibit are planned for the new wing.

Weigh Station Forecast Near Vernal Area

Lyle Hyatt, superintendent of the State Highway Patrol, announced plans to build a weigh station near Vernal to handle the high truck volume from oil fields Flaming Gorge Dam and the phosphate plant. The existing Heber station will remain as a control point. Hyatt also named sites for five twin stations, with one weigh station on each side of the highway. the Vernal site will be a single type.

County GOP Names New Chairman At Vernal Convention

Uinted county Republicans elected Grant Southam as county chairman at their Friday evening convention in the county building. Officers elected include Mrs. Kenneth Sowards as vice chairwoman and Mrs. Keith Adams as secretary, with Mrs. May Samuels reelected treasurer. Royal Henderson and Mrs. Vera Hacking were chosen as state convention delegates, with 16 state delegates also named. About 150 people attended and 12 student Republicans were present.

Children Find Missing Man Body in Ditch

The body of 28 year old Harry Cotonuts, missing since February 6, was found March 29 in a three foot ditch along U S 40 near Roosevelt by two children, Jenne Timothy and Paul Dee Johnson, while bottle collecting. Provo autopsy planned. police say he left home two months earlier.

Red Wash Eyes Expansion Plan With New 9 Mile Pipeline

California Oil Company Western Division seeks approval for expansion of Red Wash field oil recovery in Utah California oil firm plans a new six inch pipeline nine miles from central tank battery to Salt Lake Rangely line and a water injection well as part of a tertiary recovery program A heated transport network will raise Red Wash capacity to about 12 500 barrels per day while Rangely conducts its own large scale secondary recovery efforts.

One-Car Crash Near Ouray Causes Damages and Citations

A one car crash Sunday at 6:15 pm on the 4 mile east of Ouray on Ute Indian Tribe road caused $500 in damages to a 1957 Ford four door sedan driven by Imogene Mille Hodge Williams, 22, of 178 West and No. She ran off the right side and hit a tree. The owner was Roger DeWitt Williams. Mrs Williams was cited for no driver's license and for driving while under the influence of alcohol. Trooper Leonard Ferguson of the Utah Highway Patrol investigated.

Tabiona group of Tabiona ranchers and dairymen forms Zion Petroleum Co to drill a 000-foot wildcat near their homes in search of oil. The venture is led by Elwood Carter of Tabiona, president, with George C. Larsen of Ephraim Creamery Salt Lake City as investor, the well to be named Carter No 1.

LDS Priesthood Broadcast Set for General Conference

A wire broadcast announces the 132nd annual LDS Church General Conference with sessions Friday to Sunday at 10 am and 2 pm. Class Slated On First Aid Training At Uintah County

Ruth Piper of the American Red Cross announces a new First Aid class starting Saturday at the Uintah County building substation with Dwight Kinsey as instructor. The four sessions run 9 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 3 pm on April 7 and April 4. Kinsey recently attended a class where 10 certificates were awarded.
