Fatal cellar gas tragedy at Paris area inn

In Little Courcelles near Paris three weeks ago an innkeeper, a housekeeper, a waiter and two travelers vanished after descending to a cellar to fetch a bottle of wine. Neighbors reopened the cellar and four bodies were found with the wine vat releasing carbonic acid gas that poisoned the air. the girl died, three others recovered.

Lineal Descendant of John Welsh Noted as Minister Plenipotentiary

The Boston Advertiser recounts Mr. John Welsh a descendant of Rev. John Welsh of Scotland who married a Knox daughter. Welsh was condemned in 1605 for supporting the Scottish General Assembly and banished, later allowed to return to London. His wife challenged the King to permit his return to Scotland, offering to receive his head. the King refused. Welsh preached briefly before dying two hours after returning to his chamber. The Stuarts are banished, and a Welsh descendant is now appointed Minister Plenipotentiary to the Court of St James.

Frenzied horse attacks and injures boy in Freestone County

Last Saturday in Freestone County across the river a strange enraged horse attacked seventeen year old Humphreys son as he approached a herd to catch his horse. The animal mauled his hand and arm until citizens intervened and killed the horse.

Man on Marmaton bridge saved express train by shouting

The Fort Scott Monitor reports M. V. Donley, superintendent of bridges for Fort Scott and L. L. G., fell from Marmaton bridge scaffolding sixty eight feet. Despite broken bones and severe injuries he ordered Flag No. 1 from the ground, saving an express train rushing around a curve half a mile away.
