A New Undertaking Establishment Opens in Van Wert

Mr. C. N. Yokel of Wapakoneta plans to move to Van Wert and open an undertaking establishment. He will fit rooms in the old Court-house for this purpose and operate one of the finest hearses in Northern Ohio in connection with the business.

A letter from Willshire harshly criticizing two Van Wert citizens over Murphy movement remarks is rejected for publication. The editor cites that public quarrels between neighbors are unsuitable for newspaper columns.

The Our Schools Our Union School closed yesterday for the summer vacation with closing exercises of the highest order. Commencement exercises were very fine, though held too late for timely notice in this week's edition, reflecting rapid pupil progress under the institution's staff.

Lost Watch Near Dustman Road Sells at Auction

A Hunter's Case watch made in Liverpool went missing on Wednesday June 7 1877 between Gleason Bros Saw Mill and the subscriber's farm on Dustman road. A trout party camping near Lyon's Dam witnessed a horned toad escape a rattlesnake by bursting the snake's jaws with the toad's horns. The snake died. the toad hopped away unharmed. The scene was part of a broader Gazette style column mixing curiosities, local tidbits, and brief notices.
