Anvils and Outlaws Tale From Colorado’s Deadly West
A long account recounts the Espinosa murders in 1860s Colorado. It describes the Anvil Rocks ambush, grisly killings of American travelers, a pursuit led by Lt. Baldwin with Autabees, and the final death of Espinosa at Fort Lyon. The report also includes interviews exonerating Judge West over Know Nothing accusations.
Senator Blaine and the Forty third Congress Eulogy Row
The Forty third Congress saw several deaths among its members, with Hooper Crocker Hersey Rice and others on the list. General Butler sought the eulogy order at the Speaker's desk and Blaine noted that colleagues determine the program. Butler warned he would interrupt with a speech on Hooper if not cut off by the previous question.

Osman Pasha and Marshal Bazaine linked in Civil War era tale
The Chicago Inter Ocean reports a sensational claim that Osman Pasha of Vidin and Plevna fame is Marshal Bazaine, the famed French commander. It recounts Bazaine’s birth at Versailles in 1511, rapid rise from private to marshal, key campaigns, Metz surrender, and dramatic escape with his wife in 1874, followed by rumors of his disguise in the Ottoman forces at Widin.
