In Van Wert's 14 precincts a total of 1 024 votes were cast, surpassing the 1932 tally but far below the two year high. About five Republicans voted for every three Democrats as polls opened and remained open until 6 30 p m. County election board officials noted ballots were long with many names.
The Hindenburg departs Lakehurst at 11:37 p.m. EDT heading toward New York and Frankfurt amid favorable winds. Onboard are 47 passengers and 55 crew with about 1000 pounds of food 2394 pounds of freight and mail bags with 1751 packages and letters.
Albert Holbrook reported to police at 9:45 last night that his automobile was stolen after parking on Main Street between Jefferson and Washington for about 10 minutes. The incident occurred in the downtown district of Oregon City.

J W Montague 76 of 620 South Harrison died 8:45 pm Monday at Van Wert County Hospital after a year of declining health. He was born near Lancaster and lived in Van Wert since 1906. Funeral 2 pm Wednesday at Vore chapel East Main. burial Ridge Cemetery. Survived by widow two sons Bert and Marcus, sister Elsie Wagner, and brothers Samuel and John Montague.
Mrs. Catherine Linnenkamp, a recent graduate of Karr's School of Business, has been hired by the Farm Bureau Cooperative Association as secretary and accountant. She specialized in office machines and general office work.
In Washington at Griffith Stadium 21000 fans watched Peter Sarrow win the featherweight crown from Freddie Miller in 16 rounds by split decision. Referee Eddie Lafond gave the deciding vote for Sarrow after two judges backed Miller, marking the capital’s first championship bout title change.

Dr. G Brownley Oxnam president of De Pauw University led among 51 candidates on the nominating ballot for four Methodist bishops in Columbus Ohio voting. Liberal and conservative factions show no real break as about 400 votes, two thirds needed for election, were cast.
W. H. Walters, superintendent, announced at the cemetery board meeting that the new water line project at Woodland Cemetery is near completion.
Progress on the Van Wert WPA high school stadium continues with 70 workers on the second section. The section should be ready for concrete by June 20 and the final part by August 1. Concrete work follows with redwood seating, press box, and rest rooms planned.
Emperor Haile Selassie bedridden in Jerusalem confined to his suite at the King David Hotel. British high commissioner Lieut Gen Sir Arthur Wauchope visited him and left without comment on his condition. American adviser E A Colson also met the emperor for private talks.
Columbus May 12. Harry N. Evans state utilities commission inspector said human failure caused the head on collision of two C. & L. E. passenger trains near Urbana on April 28. Two people were killed and 13 injured in the wreck.
Tonchi S. P M from Van Wert County will be named Queen Jubilee V elect at the fifth Peony Festival coronation in Lincoln school auditorium. Judges from Fort Wayne will select the queen after an 8 PM program, with a few reserved seats on sale at 7 PM. The queen will reign for one year starting June 4.
Mrs C F Kennedy was chosen president of the YWCA board of directors at a reorganization meeting as new directors took office. Officers elected include Mrs W R Phares vice president Mrs Fred Dippery secretary and Miss Hazel Gleason treasurer. New directors listed include Mrs E E Snyder Mrs L Z Morris Mrs Roy McConahay and Miss Gleason. The session discussed The Relation of the YWCA to the Different Youth Movements in the United States. Reports were given by Mrs L C Miller Miss Edna L Wilson and Mrs Kennedy on recent national convention youth sessions at Colorado Springs.
The Brumback library logged 834 gifts in April with 636 magazines and 69 books. Top donors were Mrs J E Diener with 262 magazines, Mrs Orrin Rowland with 151 miscellaneous pieces, and Mrs H W Clark with 45 books. Gifts followed a magazine and book drive during house cleaning and are recorded for monthly trustee meetings.
Robert Brickman was named chairman of a Kiwanis special committee to arrange sale of memberships in the Van Wert County Parks Association. Other members include the Rev. Paul R. Sharp L. O.
