A westward moving tornado swept through four Iowa and Minnesota counties on May 1 killing three and injuring dozens. The storm crossed the north western corner of Iowa along the state boundary for 200 miles before exiting into Minnesota. Farm laborer near Milford, Mrs Julius Heuer of Everly, Ray Schelmeski of Fairmont were among the dead. Hospitals in Milford Estherville and Fairmont treated crushed and lacerated injuries as survivors rushed to towns over nearly impassable roads. Authorities fear higher toll if more towns were struck.

C M Young a Van Wert Ohio druggist aged 68 died around 4 p m after a brief hemorrhage. He had sought medical advice for deteriorating vision and planned a Mayo Clinic examination. A devout Presbyterian and longtime city council member he leaves a wife and daughter and was active in church and civic affairs. Funeral arrangements were to be held at the Presbyterian church with burial in Woodland.
