Steward Transfers from Times to Monroe Insurance Post

Harold E. Steward, longtime head of the Times classified ads, leaves for Monroe Michigan to join Monroe Mutual Insurance Agency run by G. R. Brackin. The agency represents Central Manufacturers Mutual and others. Judson W. Owens will take Steward’s place in the Times classified department.

Rites Today for Mrs. Wm. Kirkland

Funeral services were held this afternoon for Mrs. William Kirkland of Harrison township following her death Saturday in a Fort Wayne hospital after a week-long illness. She is survived by her husband a son and daughter, her parents Mr and Mrs Frank Allen of Leeson Avenue and a brother Perry Allen of east of the city.

Northwest Ohio Guernsey Herd Improvement Association formed

The Ohio Herd Improvement Association expanded in 1936 adding Guernsey herds in Van Wert County and nearby areas. A new Northwest Ohio Guernsey Herd Improvement Association was organized at Van Wert court house with Adam Giessler as chair and Henry Thomas as vice chair, plus secretary treasurer Julius Friedly. Members can apply at the county agent’s offices in Van Wert or Defiance for the April test, with late entries refused.

Local Band Seeks More Instruments for Better Sound

Leonard Wolf, Van Wert school band director, told the Rotary club that the boys and girls have done well but need a wider variety of instruments, especially wood wind. He noted progress in school music and added equipment updates come by various methods. Child Critically Hurt by Car in Saturday Night Incident

Izola Comer seven plays in front of 720 Leeson avenue when struck by car driven by C F Price at about six pm Saturday. She suffered a fractured skull and bruises and regained consciousness yesterday with fever subsiding this morning. Barbara Beery witnessed the event. Price carried the injured child into her home and notified Sheriff R B Stevens after the hospital trip.

Ohio Primary Withdrawals Shaping Key Races

State Senator John A. Lloyd of Portmouth withdrew from the race for lieutenant governor. Community meetings draw over a thousand in county

Half completed formum meetings in three parts of Van Wert county drew more than 1,000 attendees in the first month. WPA project head Leo Hummer announced continued programs for four weeks at York school on Monday, Middle Point on Tuesday, and Tully Convoy on Friday evenings. Convoy program featured baritone William Hall, vocal quartet and piano performances, a talk by Superintendent Leiter, and addresses by Dr. C. R. Keyser and C. Shaffer.

Boat Builder John Zetzer Reported Missing After Abduction

PORT CLINTON OHIO March 30 Authorities investigated the disappearance of John Zetzer a 35 year old boat builder who was grabbed last Friday by three men posing as federal agents claiming to need to take him to Fremont for identification His brother Joseph 33 was also driven a short distance before being dropped back at the boat shop The men were said to be heavily armed one wore a badge Federal agents in Detroit Cleveland Toledo Milan and Fremont were contacted but could not locate Zetzer.

An official Ulan Bator dispatch reports two new incursions by a Japanese Manchukuoan force into Outer Mongolia. Kite Contest Winners Named at Scott WPA Event

Alfred S. Fisher of Van Wert led the Scott WPA recreation day featuring a kite contest. Judges included Richard Wagenrod P L Mohr and Mayor F E Hammond. Charles Pond won the 16 and over flying division with a 150 foot ascent in 3 minutes 8 seconds, pull of 1 lb 8 oz. Edward Kimmel won 12 to 16 and Kenny Pond the under 12. Best constructed kites came from Stanley Houseworth Doyle Mohr and Robert Hough. A pot luck supper followed and scouts may organize a Boy Scout troop.

Kniffin Seeks FTC Probe of Farm Machinery Prices

Congressman Frank C. Kniffin introduces a joint resolution directing the Federal Trade Commission to investigate and report on prices of agricultural implements and machinery. He cites monopoly and price fixing by the farm machinery trust as a retarding factor for farmers and notes court orders to dissolve the combination. The measure goes to the committee on interstate and foreign commerce.
