Washington March 19 Among the nominations sent to the Senate by President Harrison were Thomas Jr of Maine to be Minister to Norway and Sweden Samuel Whitfeld of Ohio to be Commissioner of Internal Revenue Chavion Mitchell of Connecticut to be Commissioner of Patents and various United States marshalships. A later report notes Whitelaw Reid declined to serve as Assistant Secretary of State and continued confirmations of prior appointments.
