Mesrynvittz Oregon May 24 a house owned by M Shaddon burned to ashes. Shaddon’s 10 year old daughter died from burns and her son severely burned begged for death. 80 year old Mrs Shaddon found nude from shock, blind son 45 also burned. Judge Galloway’s residence nearby was scorched.
Curacao May 24 The election commissioners Keenan Hutchings and Schomer were discharged from custody by a joint order of Judges Tuley Adams and Sears. They held Judge Chetlain had no authority to fine them for contempt for refusing to produce ballots before the grand jury. The order to burn ballots without opening was deemed in line with the law.
Edmund H. Yates, editor and proprietor of the World, died after a sudden illness. He attended a theater Saturday evening, suffered a fit, and died at 4 o clock Sunday morning. His death followed a prolonged illness and a rapid decline after the seizure.
