Washington Feb 15 A long time federal housing program to promote private home building was planned for the current Congress. Sen Robert F Wagner said President Roosevelt approved tentative plans for a bill to be introduced before March 1 and administration support would be given. The plan would raise federal mortgage guarantees from 80 to 90 percent for modest homes, aid slum clearance with federal grants or loans, and extend the insulation and modernization loan program beyond April 1. Estimated first year cost ranged from under 400 million to 250 million, with a 10 year life. The White House conference covered slum clearance low income housing and small homes, with the president committed to a housing program. It was not yet clear how the plan would affect existing federal housing agencies.

Chicago February 15. Machine Gun Jack McGurn, once Al Capone’s gunner and Moran foe, was shot dead by three masked gunmen at a northwest side bowling alley.
