Linen Shower to Aid French Hospitals Urges Recipients

The American Red Cross asks households in the Lake Division including Van Buren to donate linen during the week of September 30. Families should use old linen and any new pieces to create towels sheets napkins and handkerchiefs for French hospitals. A calf sale raised 121.50 funds to support linens.

Gall Issued for FFT One More Men for Army

Local draft board announces 51 men are to entrain for Camp Taylor Kentucky during October. The call uses the 917 list plus those aged 21 last June and August registrants. Ten from Gas City, ten from Jonesboro, eight from Upland, seven from Fairmount, seven from Swayzee, rest from Van Buren. Names include Ruth Uomer, Heilman, Wilbur Kelley, and many others. Meet 10 Boost the Liberty Loan Meet 10

A meeting to boost the fourth Liberty Loan in Van Buren township will be at the opera house next Monday night. Speaker Hon Gus Condo of Marion and a Marion soldier who lately returned from the Western front will attend, with a Marion singer and the newly organized High School orchestra providing music. The township quota is 132000, twice the last loan, and every citizen is urged to attend.

Seeds and Pits Sought for Gas Masks Drive

The Grant county Red Cross asks for seeds of peaches apricots prunes plums olives cherries and dates and shells of walnuts butternuts hickory and Brazil nuts. A chemical from seed pits aids carbon for gas masks and must be dried and sent to Marion Indiana. Local Baker Brings Real Bread to Van Buren
