The News-Eagle notes committees forming for the Farmers and Merchants Fall Festival and Home Coming in Van Buren on October 7 to 9. A large crowd attended a library meeting as funds were pledged and plans finalized for parades, hog sales, livestock exhibits, and regional fair features.

Connecticut legislature approves the Federal Equal Suffrage Amendment by 216 to 11 in the house and 33 to 0 in the senate. Woodard Buys Curtis Property On Fourth Street

A. L. Woodard purchased the Curtis property on Fourth street and will move it to his farm a half mile east of town. The former Stimp farm house is being converted into grain houses, and the Curtis house will occupy that site.

Marion Will Play Four County Baseball Games This Year

Grant County high schools form a league with each school scheduled for four baseball games. Top finishers after the series will meet for the county championship on the second Saturday at Fairmount Academy. Van Buren hosts Marion on Sept 17 and others on Sept 24 Oct 1 and Oct 8.

EB Maggart who ran a local blacksmith shop for 74 years sold the business last week to his employer Homer Harrell. Harrell took possession immediately and Maggart plans to move to Marion after earning the respect of the community.
