Committees in October street fair preparations race to secure high class entertainers and numerous exhibits. Charles Lowery plans to display his herd of 160 Duroc hogs with farm product and live stock exhibits expected to be among the best. Committees should meet at once.
The committee solicits exhibits for horses cattle swine sheep agricultural poultry and art and culinary at the Fall Festival and Home Coming. Open to all Van Buren Township and nearby townships with no entry fee. Premium lists available from Secretary Guy Duckwail.
The News-Eagle notes committees forming for the Farmers and Merchants Fall Festival and Home Coming in Van Buren on October 7 to 9. A large crowd attended a library meeting as funds were pledged and plans finalized for parades, hog sales, livestock exhibits, and regional fair features.
Connecticut legislature approves the Federal Equal Suffrage Amendment by 216 to 11 in the house and 33 to 0 in the senate. The law will take effect after the governor signs, completion of the final state steps aided by Tennessee's ratification status. The move marks a historic expansion of voting rights nationally.
A. L. Woodard purchased the Curtis property on Fourth street and will move it to his farm a half mile east of town. The former Stimp farm house is being converted into grain houses, and the Curtis house will occupy that site.
The Republican Central Committee schedules prominent speakers across Grant county towns starting Sept 17. Richard Fairbanks opens in Marion, followed by Congressmen Anderson and J. Adam Bede, Eleanor Barker, and Senator Jas. E. Watson visiting Fairmount Gas City Van Buren Marion.
Grant County high schools form a league with each school scheduled for four baseball games. Top finishers after the series will meet for the county championship on the second Saturday at Fairmount Academy. Van Buren hosts Marion on Sept 17 and others on Sept 24 Oct 1 and Oct 8.
Rally day and homecoming at Farrville church on Sunday September 26 invites everyone to attend Sunday school bring dinner and stay all day. An afternoon speaking program will feature a good speaker secured for the event.
Otis Crane former county agent for Grant county will preach at the library Sunday afternoon at 2 30 following Bible School at 2 o clock. He has many friends in the community who will be glad to hear him speak.
A call advertises a sewing machine demonstration requested by E C Vickers. The wording emphasizes simplicity and direct inquiry for a demonstration session.
Van Buren Indiana hosts a September 7 8 9 festival with an extensive list of committees including officers Executive Finance Program Concessions Music Advertising Poultry Horses and Cattle Sheep and Hogs Rabbit Grain Fruits Vegetables Ladies Art and Needlework Culinary Parade Decorations and Decorated Stores and Residences. The document names officers and committee members from Town and Country groups led by President W F Williamson and Secretary Guy Duckwall with many local residents and teachers appointed to roles.

This afternoon Dr. G. G. Richardson delivered a basket of fruit to the News-Eagle office. The basket contained two kinds of grapes and two varieties of peaches described as extra nice and delicious. The note praises Dr Richardson for success in fruit raising and offers thanks from the News-Eagle family.
EB Maggart who ran a local blacksmith shop for 74 years sold the business last week to his employer Homer Harrell. Harrell took possession immediately and Maggart plans to move to Marion after earning the respect of the community.
