Victory Five To Play Benefit Game For Van Buren Gym

The Victory Five donate there services to raise funds for paying the new gym debt. A benefit game at Van Buren gym on Saturday April 2 features the local Association team against Hartford City paper mill nine with ticket prices at fifty cents. Proceeds, after expenses, go to the players as thanks for their season of service.

Warren Fair Stakes Card Promises Record Purse Totals

Secretary Charles James announced 124 entries for six Warren County fair stake races, with four 1090 dollar purses and two 500 dollar events. The Warren Fair traces back to 1884 and lists current officers and directors while noting top middle west horses entering from Danville Illinois Lima Ohio Memphis Tennessee and Fort Wayne Indiana. Facilities and the stable lines include Loos Hearnley, Dobbins Meyer, and Saylor Van Alstine groups.

Farmers OpUSAL Meeting Teaches Serum Science Monday

Some Old Easter Eggs Unearthed By Mrs Elliott

Mrs. Sarah Elliott shows Easter eggs colored many years ago bearing dates from 1856 to 1899. One egg dated 1882 lacks a specific Easter date. The collection includes a 1856 egg carved with an eagle and a serpent and the word Union, plus other eggs dated April 2 1898 and 1899 and April 13 1884. The 1898 egg is a so called poose eye given by Mrs. John Smith who lives south of town.

Farmers Board 10 Ask for County Agent

The Grant County Agricultural Association will ask the County Board of Education next Monday to appoint a county agent. They cite the benefit to residents and note that the county already helps fund agents in other counties. A 75 percent response favored the proposal, though the board is not yet unanimous. Victory Five Defeats Montpelier Independents In Close Bout

The Victory Five edged the Montpelier Independents 26 to 18 on Saturday night on the local floor. Kenny Doyle led scorers as Van Buren held a 17 to 6 halftime edge. A benefit game Saturday will include the Ford City Paper team. admission is fifty cents with proceeds aiding Victory Five members.
