The Van Buren Township Community Welfare Association held a meeting at the News-Eagle office to plan a March 12 banquet. About 200 plates are expected. menu includes bean soup crackers pickles pie and coffee. Speaker Mr Cheadle of Frankfort will discuss community building.
Frank Vanness has purchased the Bradford farm at Landess now occupied by Ross Passmore and will take possession in a few days. Passmore will move to his own place south of town.
A Saturday night game saw the eighth grade defeat the Freshmen five 12 to 3. Ballard and Saxon led the eighth grade with strong forwards, while Kid Farr and Dee Richardson fared for the Freshmen. Summitville’s fast team beat the high school 36 to 18.
Mr and Mrs A P Romey and son Earl left Friday for their new farm at Route 3 Bluffton Van Buren. Andy Romey leaves a hard to fill post as station agent for the traction company. He is praised for faithful service and appreciated by the community who wish them well in their new home.
The Van Buren Township Agricultural Association held a 7 30 p m session at the public library reading room chaired by J E Armstrong. Reports on the group’s progress were given and new district directors appointed. The body voted against Daylight Saving Law and planned a drive for new members with Wm Bien named vice president and Landess White as press correspondent. A March 10 meeting at the library with O W Florea and others scheduled.
Mr and Mrs Everett Beck have moved to a farm they recently purchased near Larwill Indiana Congratulations to the community on acquiring these desirable residents and regret their removal from this vicinity where they have been life long residents Their son Flynn Beck a senior will remain in high school until after graduation in April.
James Hudson, aged 92, died February 27 1920 at Milo Indiana after a life as a charter member of Union Chapel Methodist Protestant church. Born November 19 1827 in Clinton County Ohio he married Mary J. Miller and had nine children. Funeral services were held at Union Chapel with Rev P W Boxell officiating and interment in Jones cemetery.
Walker B Farr and Mrs Hettie Davis hosted a farm and pure bred hog sale southeast of town. The News Eagle advert was credited with drawing heavy buyers including the purchaser of a $250 hog and boar. The sale total reached $6700 with nearly all stock sold in under two hours.

The Nelson Strider Hardware and Implement Co combination sale last Wednesday drew a large farmer turnout and bustling streets. Local businessmen expect to continue these sales periodically.
J D Gallion opened a new grocery store last Saturday after purchasing the C D Nelson building and fixtures. Nelson sold all stock, and Gallion renovated the shop, added a fresh stock, and began strict cash sales to the public.
The Domestic Science class of the local high school will hold a market at Davis drug store on Saturday March 6. Proceeds go to a worthy cause and the event invites patrons.
Elkanah Kiteh junior member of Kitch & Son dies at home after influenza and pneumonia. He is the fourth Kiteh family member to die in two weeks, following his wife’s Feb 6 death. Dora Kiteh, sister, also died Feb 18 in Van Buren. A church obituary extols his Christian character and business success. A full notice appears on another page.
Mr David Riteh, gravely ill after hospitalization at his son I F E it eh s Van Buren home, was moved this afternoon to Landess in an ambulance. His condition remains unimproved following multiple recent family losses, and Mrs Kitch believes he will recover more comfortably at his own home, a plan he supports.
The Van Buren Freshmen defeated Warren Sophomores 61 to 4 on the local court. John Black starred for Van Buren as Summitville’s quintet visited last Friday and beat the local high school 38 to 18, signaling hope for the coming year.
Van Buren Lodge No. 711 FP and A M holds a called meeting Monday evening March 8 at 7 30. Fellow Craft Degree under W M T C Pike presides with NED R Conwell as secretary.
