Chinch bugs blamed for heavy crop damage across Grant county with rust disease reducing yields. Harvest not due for two weeks as growers seek control methods. Dust barriers and field management cited as key to preventing spread to corn.
William M. Kirkpatrick, local representative for the R. L. Dollings Companies, has his office equipment installed in the News-Eagle front room. He reports strong sales of Dollings Securities and offers to meet investors earning less than seven percent net on their money.
The W. M. A. of the United Brethren Church met Thursday evening with Mrs. Mary Newton. Mrs. Arnal Merrell presided and led prayers and mission study. Miss Lottie Kelly handled the business session. An all day July meeting is planned. Participants included Mrs. Merrell, Mrs. Rumple, Mrs. Hudson, Mrs. Lee, Mrs. Beekman, Mrs. Newton, and Miss Kelly.
The U B Church lists Sunday School at 9 30 a m Preaching by Pastor at 10 30 a m and Christian Endeavor at 7 00 p m for worship and activities.
The Central Church of Christ invites attendance at Bible School at 9 30 a m and preaching at 10 80 a m and 7 30 p m led by Rev A Martin The message promises a cordial welcome to all guests.
John Stewart disrupted an attempted burglary on Monday around 1 a.m. on South First Street when an unknown intruder opened the kitchen door and fled over the back lot after being spotted by Stewart who warned he would arm himself next time.
On Wednesday evening June 14 Flag Day events were held on the Library lawn led by the Boy Scouts. The Ma sonic Band played while George Richardson recited respect for the flag and Keith Howard gave a patriotic reading. Rev. E. E. Lutes delivered the address and an offering funded the library flag. Claude Dillon directed Scout physical culture exercises as the group closed with band music.
The W C T U will hold an all day meeting on June 21 at the country home of Mrs W O D Palmer. A pot luck dinner will be served at noon and the public is invited. Mrs Gertrude Newsom of Marion will attend and give an address with Jubilee and sung prayers.

Johnnie Butler fell while picking cherries at the L. E. Furnish Home and broke the left forearm. the fracture was reduced by a physician and he is able to be out. Loran Nelson riding a bicycle on East 1st street failed to see a passing car on Main street and struck the rear wheels, suffering a forehead flesh wound that bled freely and bicycle damage.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Galbreath entertained at dinner Sunday guests including Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Myers of Sims Dr. and Mrs. Crandell of Warren and Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Draper and sons Rex and Max.
Indianapolis June 14 express payments totaling 18747.64 were made to the Kokomo Stone Company for Grant county road work. The state board of accountants alleges short weights and fraud in shipments from 1917 to 1921, with 540 of 641 shipments short in weight and duplicative bills in a case involving Harvey M. McCaskey.
The Clover Leaf Railroad announces time changes effective next Sunday June 18. Minor shifts occur with No 3 Westbound to Frankfort 12 20 PM No 4 Eastbound 1 00 PM No 5 Westbound 9 50 PM and No 6 Eastbound 3 40 AM.

Warren Indiana bids for the town hall project estimated at 12000 dollars are to be opened July 10 by the town board. The hall will stand on the principal corner and provide offices for city officers and public accommodations. The corner site was bought by the town long ago and previously housed a combination building with a shoe repair shop and bandstand.

Lee and family of Bluffton, Otto Hartman and family of Bluffton, Letha Clevenger of Landess.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pilkington and Florente Whitecotton were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Landis in Marion. Also visiting were Mrs. Manson and her children Harriett and Landis, and Mrs. Lloyd Pilkington and her son Donald from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
