FAKER DELAYED REMINDER ADVERTISING SCHEME EXPLODES

A traveling con man sold space on a Kitchen Reminder card to 20 merchants for five dollars each, but vanished after collecting cash. Local shopkeepers lost three dollars each while the card lists common household items for home use. An advertising expert notes country newspapers offer strong value when used properly.

Indiana Women Exhibit At Hoosier Fair Art Show

Women visitors to the Indiana State Fair will see an all Hoosier women crafted display in the art department with eleven divisions including crochet lace embroidery sewing photography and drawings. County farm agents will present extensive county displays at the Studebaker pavilion as part of Indiana farm resources and farming advancement showcased at the fair opening Sept. 6.

The fair offers 71507 in premiums across departments including Speed horse cattle sheets swine poultry agriculture horticulture and fine arts. Lewis Struble has accepted a position in the L V Conwell drug store.

Entertain K. K. K S and Mothers by Misses Howard

The K. K. KK girls and their mothers were entertained Friday afternoon by Misses Maud and Helen Howard. The event featured a themed program Frolic of Advertisements with each girl representing an ad. Music included piano solos by Cecil Palmer and Nellie Hodson and refreshments were served to a list of guests.

Work Begins on New Church of Christ Building

Work on the new church of Christ started Monday morning and is to be completed this fall. The brick structure will rise on the site of the old building which burned several weeks ago. August Reudlinger holds the contract.

Tragic Death From Poison Tablets In Child

Boneta Wilson two dies after eating Hinkie’s Tablets mistaken for laxative. Her parents, Dr. Derbys hire, and local residents responded as physicians pronounced the child beyond help. Grandfather Henry Shultz had bought a dozen and used two. ten tablets caused fatal strychnine poisoning. Boneta, born June 29, 1913, dies after a brief illness, mourned by her family.

Underground Gasoline Tanks Ordered by State Fire Marshal

State Fire Marshal offices report widespread inquiries about orders requiring gasoline storage tanks of more than ten gallons to be placed underground. Forty days notice is given with prosecutions planned for noncompliance. Some exemptions exist for outside city limits with metal tanks and pumps. A pamphlet on safe handling is free on request.

Road bosses gain police powers over state highways

County road superintendents, under a ruling by Attorney General Richard M. Milburn and State Examiner Gilbert H. Hendren, are authorized to govern state highways in their counties to protect citizens from speeding. The decision expects to curb rural speeding complaints with enforcement in place.

First Grant County Registrants Lead Indiana Auto Census

C B Worrell of the National Military Home with his Studebaker was first in Grant county to register his car this year at the State House. J R D McClosky of Marion registered his Buick nearby, bringing Grant county to 1489 registrations. Indiana totals exceed 83,000 for 1915, up from 64,000 in 1914, with Fords about 30,000 of the registrations.
