The first number drawn for U S army conscription is 255 held by Harry Boxell of Roseburg son of Mr and Mrs D W Boxell He is a valuable Studabaker Grain & Seed Co manager if drafted it will be a loss to the company Draft officials work on assigning order as 687000 men must be raised and about 3000 numbers drawn in Washington may be needed to reach war strength
The forty third annual session of the White River Branch Womans Missionary Association of the U B church will be at Van Buren church August 1 and 2. Sessions include welcomes by Mrs Flora Beekman, reports, business meetings, music, papers, readings, and services led by local groups and Rev A M Johnson with Warren locals.

Leo Losure two year old son of Mr and Mrs Frank Losure west of town had a wagon loaded with hay pass over his left hand and graze a leg Monday afternoon. Hand badly mashed and swollen but no bones broken and hospital physician calm about permanent injury. No witness could explain how he got under the wagon. the escape described as miraculous.

Indianapolis report says national Republican forces may back Governor James P. Goodrich of Indiana for vice president in 1920. Hoosier supporters have worked quietly, and Goodrich spoke to the Interstate Commerce Committee in Washington urging swift action on the coal crisis.

Bert Worrel ferried a traveling man to Huntington in the auto Old Yaller. The man demanded a faster trip for an extra dollar. Worrel ordered the tire to hold to Walter and sped the journey finishing in 31 minutes, down from an estimated 45.
Paul Jones Jr. of Detroit Michigan suffered a broken right leg after being struck by a machine. He is the grandson of George Doyle of this place, and Mrs. Jones is a well known local figure, having former ties to the community.
