Purdue University botanists warn that tip burn or blight in potatoes is caused by leaf hoppers that feed on veins turning leaf edges brown and yellow. Inspect undersides for greenish bugs and spray thoroughly with Bordeaux mixture. adding black leaf 40 improves pest kill. Weak potatoes with leaf roll or mosaic suffer more.

A horse driven by a young man named Balsley fell near Sid Allen's residence on Sunday evening. The animal slid and rolled in a somersault, its head striking beneath the buggy. aside from a few scratches the horse was uninjured.

Grant county tax valuation faces cuts and future hearing

The 1928 personal property value in Grant county falls by 789 260 from the board of review. County Assessor Nelson Shockey reports 1923 values for Van Buren township and contrasts with 1922 figures. The total taxable property is down to 7 1 4 89 068 from 7 6 0 0? The state board of tax commissioners will hold a July 24 hearing at the statehouse in Indianapolis to equalize values across counties, with Shockey planning to contest any general increases using his figures.

Mrs E L Pierson Dies After Gall Stones Operation

Mrs E L Pierson a long time resident died Sunday at 4 10 after gall stones operation at Grant County Hospital Marion Indiana aged 51 5 19 She married 1894 to Enoch L Pierson and leaves husband four children and a foster daughter Funeral services were held at Farrville Church with Rev J T Bridwell and Rev FE Lutes speaking. There are many relatives and friends listed. There is no death poem quoted.

Central Church Sees Strong Attendance at Summer School

The Central Church reports a high Church School attendance for the summer. Sunday services list 10:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. with sermons “Fishers of Men” and “The Thing That Sends Most People to Hell.” The U P S C E held a well attended meeting Sunday evening, reflecting strong interest.

August 29 and 30 were chosen for the Monde township fair at a meeting of forty farmers at Center Schoolhouse. Enthusiasm ran high as nearby site options were discussed and a new location closer to the school or about a mile away was considered. a final site decision will come at a future meeting.
