Dr and Mrs J E Derbyshire and Mr and Mrs Orley Arnett with son Bobby returned from a visit at The Twin Stars cottage on Lake Webster. En route they passed through a storm swept district near Warsaw where several houses were unrooted and many trees were blown down. In one field they counted seven uprooted trees.

Near Tragedy at Van Buren Boy Scout Camp
A near tragedy occurred at the Van Buren Boy Scout Camp on the Tippacanoe River when Wilbur Weaver, son of Mrs. Chas Hatcher, could not swim and sank after his boat drifted away. Dale Eubanks and a rescuer located him, revived him with first aid, and he was taken to a Warsaw hospital before returning home in good condition but sore from treatment.

Clover Leaf Wreck Ties Up Traffic Near Bluffton
A Friday morning wreck on the Clover Leaf tied up traffic for about five hours near the Alec Hunt farm northeast of Bluffton. Three freight cars jumped the track at the road crossing after a break beam failure, two cars landing south of the track and one to the north. The box cars tore loose and were demolished.

Mr and Mrs John Hodson and son Orville and John Farr traveled to Winona on Sunday to visit Nellie Hodson at school. They attended the Billy Sunday tabernacle gathering in morning and afternoon with about 8000 present in the afternoon and nearly 800 dollars collected in the morning. The party called the day enjoyable.

Town delays water mains contract due to high estimates
The town board did not let the contract for extending the water mains at its last meeting. The engineer's estimate was too low with pipe priced at 52.50 per ton versus 46.00 estimated. A new estimate will be prepared and the contract let later.

Only nine pounds was the maximum difference found among the scales. slight variance traced to dirt collected on road tested by weighing automobiles.

Studabaker Hurt At Farmers Elevator In Van Buren
Dr. Studabaker of Bluffton was injured Friday when the scales at Farmers Elevator failed as Frank Willey backed a hay truck onto them. Hay toppled onto him but he was thrown clear to avoid fatal harm, suffering chest injuries not expected to be serious. He received medical care at Bluffton. He was able to return to Van Buren by Tuesday.

John Barnes 61 of Van Buren died Sunday at home from pulmonary tuberculosis. Born December 8 1860 in Grant County he was the son of John H and Lydia Troth Barnes. He leaves wife Addie and son Frank of Marion, six grandchildren, one brother and a sister. Funeral Tuesday at 10 a m conducted by Rev E W Moore with burial in Van Buren Cemetery.

Bicycle accident leaves rider with severe arm lacerations
Mr. Earl Allen suffered a painful fall Sunday on a country road when his bicycle skidded in dust. He was thrown to the road bed and his right arm was severely lacerated nearly its full length, with cuts and bruises to his left hand, wrist, and right leg. He is reported to be resting comfortably today.
