W C T U Holds Institute at Methodist Church

The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union met at the Methodist Church on Wednesday for a full institute. Mrs. Stanley, state vice president, led the program with prayers, songs, readings, and talks on war work replacement, reconstruction, and world wide prohibition. A piano solo by Dorothy Duckwall capped the evening.

First New Wheat Arrives at Van Buren Exchange

The first new wheat to reach Van Buren was received at the Farmers Equity Exchange on Wednesday. Brought in by John Minton who farms 93 acres north of town, the sample tests 53 and is valued at $1.90 a bushel on the market. The average yield will be reported once the full crop is gathered, likely tomorrow.

Sunday School Meeting Planned by Township Leaders

Township chairman Mr. Walker B. Farr urges all Sunday School workers to meet at the News-Eagle office on Saturday evening July 12 at 8 30. Topics include business from the State Sunday School convention and planning a township picnic. superintendents and township officers are especially urged to attend.

Stolen Auto Recovered Near West Marion

Frank Doyle and family lost their car during a Soldiers Home fireworks display. The vehicle was found Monday morning by the roadside in West Marion, in good condition except for a broken strap on the top and two hats left behind. Thieves rode it, used gasoline, then returned it with minor wear after a local chase.

Elevator Ready to Handle Wheat at Farmers Equity

The Farmers Equity Elevator, under manager J. E. Tewksbury, reports the new facility is ready to handle wheat though not fully completed. The grinding outfit is installed and the elevator can grind feed. Weather delays slowed progress, but in two months the building is turned over ready for this year's wheat and grinding operations.
