Landessville Dunkard Church History and Fires
The German Baptist church in Landessville was built in 1874 with a 55 member congregation led by elders John Baker and Jacob Tinkle. A cyclone damaged the old building May 20, 1877, killing Eddie Mills and John Jackson and injuring several, then it burned August 17, 1918. In 1919 Mt Gilead Church was moved and remodeled on the same ground for ongoing services each Sunday and biweekly preaching.
