Near East Relief assures grain aid reaches needy regions

The Near East Relief Committee reports generous Indiana support and notes that grain sent for southern Russia Armenia and the Holy Lands is monitored by American relief workers from shipment to warehouse. Bolshevik and Turkish forces allegedly cooperate in transporting child feeding supplies and no diversion of aid is expected. Indiana's grain quota includes 200 car loads with Grant County at the same level.

The W M A of the U B church met at Mrs. B F Hudson’s home on Thursday December 1 led by Mrs Flora Beekman. Scripture was read by Mrs Julia Merrell and Miss Lottie Kelley gave the Kingdom and the Nations lesson. The Thank Offering was collected for foreign educational work. Narrow escape for Van Buren hunter in quail incident

Harvey Ereckson formerly of Van Buren now lives in Michols narrowly escaped death while hunting. A second hunter fired at a covey of quail as Ereckson had just started out, shooting multiple times and injuring his right eye, which was destroyed. He reports to his uncle Will Kelley that he is done with hunting.

Under the Loyal Workers class of Union Chapel a box social is planned at the Lee school house one and a half miles north and two hundred forty six miles west of Van Buren on Friday evening December 16 at 7 30. Activities include a fish pond and other amusements with prizes for the most popular young lady and the laziest man. Lora Puckett serves as auctioneer and Landess L White as clerk.

One Week County Vacation Declared by Trustees

The county board of township trustees announced a week long school vacation starting the Monday after Christmas for all county schools. They also passed resolutions favoring repeal of the state teachers retirement fund act and will send them to state lawmakers.
