A large crowd attended a Van Buren High School entertainment at the opera house to aid the Van Buren Athletic Association. Prof H H Scott led the program with faculty help. the event showcased a new school orchestra, Burkhart Melody, readings and vocal numbers, pantomime and living pictures, ending with We Want a Gymnasium. The project aims to fund a basketball hall still under construction and to schedule future home games.

Mrs. Elizabeth Kern of Decatur Dies at 50
Mrs. Elizabeth Kern aged 50 died at her Decatur home Monday about 4 30 pm after an operation in Fort Wayne and declined. She was born in Decatur daughter of Solomon and Mary Linn married E B Kern at 20 and had four children Gladys a Decatur teacher Mrs Russell Witmer Linn and Gale. Survived by four brothers and one sister and one grandchild Martha Witmer. Husband killed at Fargo Ark about three years ago. Funeral 2 pm Wednesday at Evangelical church Rev Haney in charge. Burial in Decatur cemetery. Mrs Kern moved to Decatur two years ago and was active in the Methodist church and missionary work.

Warren Youth Dies From Hunting Accident Gunshot
Perry Griffith aged 17 of Warren died Saturday night at Grant county hospital from a gunshot wound received Friday morning while hunting. He was with companion Harold Bonifield when Bonifield dropped a gun and a hammer discharged, striking Griffith in the side.

Telephone Burns Endanger Residence Near Town
Fire broke out in a telephone at Kary Ruckwall’s home Friday night when a pole failure caused a line to fall on the trolley wire near Roy Makemson. Mr. Duckwall arrived, knocked the phone from the wall, and a bucket of water saved the structure as all phones on the line were put out of commission.
